Collaborating with Carbonz: GED and Project Management
Collaborating with Carbonz: GED and Project Management
Carbonz is a SaaS platform natively designed to foster collaboration among various project stakeholders. It includes:
- Project Actor Manager
- Collaborative Document Management (GED): Carbonz integrates a collaborative GED (Trace Connect) with user management and access rights, enabling collaboration at different project levels and document sharing
- Collaborative Features: Dedicated to collaborative work, including BCF format exchange capabilities.
Project Actor Manager: Allows defining different actors, their roles, and assigning tasks within the platform

Powerful Document Manager:
The collaborative GED (Trace Connect) allows users to attach necessary documents (plans, technical documents) to each project node. This facilitates contextualizing added documents and creating comprehensive project documentation accessible within the application’s GED.

Trace Connect includes viewers for major market formats, notably a native Microsoft Office document viewer (powered by Microsoft Cloud), allowing access in read or write mode without leaving the work environment.
BCF Format Integration
The BCF (BIM Collaboration Format) is a standard file format for exchanging information between different software or collaborators to highlight problems or “conflicts.” Once identified, it assigns messages to project actors and tracks issues until resolution.
BCF files can contain descriptions, screenshots, comments, related objects, or section views to clarify questions without providing the entire digital model.
In LCA, BCF is particularly useful for discussing choices of construction systems or materials.

Why Integrate BCF into Carbonz?
A building construction project involves multiple stakeholders: architectural offices, technical structural bureaus, thermal, HVAC, etc.
The LCA study phase occurs early in the project since environmental aspects are key design criteria.
Not all stakeholders have expertise in LCA or environmental regulations. Integrating BCF allows for feedback within the platform and facilitates finding adequate solutions quickly.
