The Trace Group was founded in the early days of 1990 to develop AutoCAD applications for mechanical and electrical engineering firms.
After the very first applications, CADBASE and PARABASE, came TR-MECA, TR-ELEC, and TR-PATRIM — the foundations of future solutions such as TraceParts, TR-CIEL, elecworks – Solidworks Electrical, Elec Calc, and Solar Calc.
In 2015, the Trace Group launched the startup Green Systèmes to develop solutions for energy management and monitoring.
A few years later, the global energy landscape was completely transformed: electricity prices soared, electric vehicles became the norm, new energy storage technologies emerged, and photovoltaic installations skyrocketed.
These shifts brought major changes in how installations are designed. It became essential to consider the full life cycle of systems, especially the operational phase, while controlling energy costs and reducing carbon footprints. Beyond sizing, electrical design now had to ensure energy efficiency and include systems for monitoring, control, and automation. Electrical design was evolving into a more holistic energy design approach — one that also had to factor in territory-level considerations for energy sharing.
In response to these new challenges, Trace Software International and Green Systèmes merged in 2024. This newly formed entity now brings together a complete technological chain: electrical systems modeling, building energy modeling (thermal performance, LCA, etc.), and energy efficiency management.
With this, Trace Software delivers innovative solutions that help clients understand the impact of their choices and make better decisions for energy management and sustainable development.
